Lime – Calcium Oxide (CaO)

Lime, also known as Calcium Oxide, is a highly alkaline and reactive compound commonly used in a variety of industrial processes. It is produced by heating limestone (calcium carbonate) and is essential in applications such as water treatment, construction, and chemical manufacturing due to its ability to neutralise acids, soften water, and adjust pH levels.

Product Variations
Quicklime (CaO) – Lump
Quicklime (CaO) – Powder
Hydrated Lime (Ca(OH)₂) – Suspension (Kalic)
Applications
pH Control & Neutralisation
Lime is widely used to adjust the pH of water in both municipal and industrial wastewater treatment processes, helping to neutralise acids and raise pH levels.
Softening of Water
It is used in water softening processes to precipitate calcium and magnesium, reducing hardness in water for use in industrial applications and potable water systems.
Flocculation & Coagulation
Lime helps in the coagulation and flocculation of suspended solids, enhancing the removal of impurities in drinking water and wastewater.
Heavy Metal Removal
Calcium Oxide is effective in precipitating heavy metals such as arsenic, lead, and mercury from water, allowing for safe disposal or further treatment.
Cement Production
Lime is a primary ingredient in the production of cement, where it is combined with silica and alumina to form clinker, the key component of cement.
Steel Manufacturing
Lime is used in the steel industry as a fluxing agent to remove impurities such as sulphur and phosphorus from molten metal.
Chemical Synthesis
Calcium Oxide is used in the production of various chemicals, such as calcium hydroxide, calcium carbide, and other calcium compounds.
Mortar & Plaster
Lime is an essential component in traditional mortar and plaster, providing workability and durability to building materials.
Soil Stabilisation
Lime is used in road construction and soil stabilisation to improve the properties of soil, reducing water content and increasing strength for use in foundations and roads.
Soil Amendment
Lime is used to correct soil acidity (lower pH), providing a more favourable environment for crops and improving nutrient availability.
Animal Feed
Hydrated Lime is used in certain animal feed formulations as a source of calcium and to aid in the preservation of feed.
Petroleum Refining
Lime is used in petroleum refining to remove sulphur compounds and other impurities, ensuring cleaner fuel production.
Drilling Fluids
It is used in oil drilling operations to control the viscosity and properties of drilling muds.
